I Fought Attah Over My Community Road, Gen. Akpan Tells Udom
An accomplished statesman in Akwa Ibom State, General Edet Akpan, has commended the state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, for his effective service delivery, and has lent support for his second term in office.
Speaking during the commissioning of a 6 kilometer Nda Nsit- Ikot Abasi –Idiaba Road in his community, Akpan, a former Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), said he was happy with Governor Emmanuel’s execution of the project after several failed attempts to convince past leaders on the project.
“My Governor we are very proud of you, I remember that I put so much pressure on (former governor) Victor Attah, to make this road, he started it but it was abandoned, for you to have done it today when there is little or no money, God will bless you.”
Gen Akpan said he was reluctant at first to join the train of Governor Emmanuel’s supporters, but was now compelled following the impressive performance of the governor in just two years.
“In your first year, when people were clamouring for you to run for second term, I said I won’t say anything, let your good works speak for you, as at now I have joined them to say you deserve second term , I am impressed that your projects are people-oriented.” Akpan added.
Also speaking, Senator Godswill Akpabio who commissioned the project, commended Governor Emmanuel for putting smiles on his people’s face and for promising more agricultural and industrial projects in the area.
He said with the successes recorded by the administration, he feels proud that the state made a right choice in 2015.
He said that Nsit Atai and Ibesikpo people were highly supportive of the emergence of Governor Emmanuel in 2015, and, “today they have being joined by very senior citizens of the State including my father, General Akpan, who came here and also shouted that Udom is Right”
Akpabio maintained that in 2019, Governor Emmanuel’s projects will open the door for his second term in office.
“I am so happy your excellency in spite of the recession , you are running around commissioning projects in the night, people are there talking and talking, these people you are seeing here cannot see this road and carry their voters card to go and collect money. To those who think they have money for 2019, we say bring your money we will vote Udom Gabriel Emmanuel
Governor Emmanuel thanked the contractors for a project well executed, and also commended them for being community-friendly.
“They were very community-friendly, I didn’t receive any complaint. I am sure once the youths don’t complain the elders won’t complain, when the contractor told me how he was advancing on the road I didn’t believe him.”
The governor recounted that he had inspected the road during a rainy day and was impressed with the drainage system in place and also thanked the Commissioner for Works for effective supervision to maintain the standard.
The Governor thanked the community for their cooperation in embracing development, and assured them of a major investment to be sited in the area to complement the activities of the Ibom International Airport.
