Uniuyo Students Storm Govt House, Drum Support For Gov Emmanuel
Students of the University of Uyo (Uniuyo), on Wednesday, embarked on a solidarity march to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel, as part of the activities to mark their 2017 students’ week.
The President, Student Union Government (SUG), Comrade Kufre Samuel, who spoke on behalf of the students, said they all came to thank the Governor for his intervention on the internal roads in the university main campus.
He expressed appreciation to the Governor for the free and compulsory education in the state of which most of them had benefited from, and his industrialization programmes, saying they would be gainfully employed after their education.
Comrade Samuel said they were in government house to show their utmost support for Governor Emmanuel to continue in office till 2023.
Governor Udom Emmanuel, who was duly represented by the Commissioner for Education, Pastor Paul Alexanda Udoufia, said that the Governor is student-friendly and poised to ensure that students are given a conducive environment to learn, and also provide the students with materials to learn.
Pastor Paul urged the students to participate in the ongoing voters card registration so that they would be eligible to vote in the next general elections come 2019.
He also charged them to take their studies serious, shun cultism and other social vices and be of good conduct.
The students were on a one-week campaign against domestic violence with the theme: “Future Without Violence” to mark the students’ week.
