AKSG Moves To End High Prices Of Food Items
By Umoh-Obong Kingsley
In its relentless pursuit to ensure total food sufficiency, Akwa Ibom State Government has issued a 31-day ultimatum to trade unions in the state to reduce prices of commodities in the market.
This was contained in a notice signed by the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Traders Matters, Mr Idorenyin Raphael, issued to various trade unions in the state and made available to newsmen.
According to the statement, some trade unions operating in the state have capitalised on the current economic downturn of the country to hike prices of food stuff in the market.
This, according to Mr Idorenyin, is regrettably condemnable, hence the need for the notice to inform all leaders of the various trade unions to, as a matter of urgency, subsidise prices of food stuffs in the market within 31 days so as to bring the rate of hardship to it’s baseless minimal.
The Governor’s Aide enjoined all concerned to comply with Gov Udom Emmanuel’s poverty alleviation and food sufficiency agenda, noting that at the expiration of the ultimatum, any deviant union would risk the dissolution of its leadership board as food items would be deployed to the markets and sold at a regulated price across the state.
