Dakkada: Akwa Ibom Basket Craftsman Turns Millionaire
A youth leader and first indigenous basket producer and supplier for commercial tomatoes plantation of Nto Etim Village in Obot Akara Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Uyo Micheal, has hit his first ever million naira through Agro Allied business of Akwa Enterprise and Employment Scheme (AKEES).
Mr Uyo, was full of praises to the state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, for the Dakkada philosophy which has changed the thinking pattern of Akwa Ibom youths to arise and earn a living with dignity rather than beg for a living, confessed that before the Dakkada philosophy became embedded in the minds of the people, it was the norm to hang around politicians seeking for peanuts without thinking of a more sustainable means of livelihood.
A basket sales for N400, and so far, over 5,000 baskets have been supplied by Mr Uyo Micheal. It’s been worrisome buying tomatoes from the Northern part of the country in the past and because of nonchalance to creative business acumen, tomatoes farmers almost continued the trend of buying baskets from our industrious brothers from the Northern part of the country till Mr Uyo Micheal rose to the demands of the time which now makes him a proud contractor who smiles to the bank as tomatoes get harvested.
Mr Uyo Michael has set the precedent through the vast opportunities available in the Agricultural revolution of Governor Udom Emmanuel, and beckons on other youths to open their eyes and minds to the Industrialization drive through Agriculture which has always been the foundation for emerging economies.
