Gov Emmanuel: Keeping The Promise In Eket/Ibeno
When Governor Udom Emmanuel made infrastructure expansion and consolidation a cardinal tenet of his administration’s five point agenda, skeptics, probably, dismissed him with a wave of hand because they thought it was not the first time they would be deceived by Nigerian politicians, who make unfulfilled promises a tradition.
Governor Udom Emmanuel seems to be a functional historical revisionist who has redefined the entire essence of governance and leadership. He is living to the bidding by fulfilling most of the promises he made during his electioneering campaign.
One area of note which the Superior Performer has given a leap to governance is road infrastructure, which makes Akwa Ibom the envy of Nigeria.
This probably made Dr Onuoha, an Associate Professor of Political Science, University whom I met while on field to allude: ‘I stand to be challenged that there is no Governor or Government in Nigeria (including the federal government) which can boast of the magnitude of progress in Road infrastructure, especially, in this period of recession…’
A cursory look at the Eket-Ibeno Road, one of the most strategic and industrial-driven roads constructed by any government in Nigeria reveals the thoughtfulness, aptness and importance of quality road to the process of industrialization.
The road which encompasses over 20 communities and leading to the Qua Iboe Terminal of Exxon Mobil was conceptualized by the immediate past administration but could not go far due to paucity of funds.
Currently, following a renewed efforts, doubled vigor and political will invested by Governor Udom Emmanuel, the road is at over 85 percent completion (my speculative assessment).
What this implies is that economic activities in the area which has been unenviable my low would be enhanced while the free and unimpeded vehicular movement would ensue. The road will be a cynosure of beauty and overall urban remodeling.
The industrial may have begun in England, one thing is certain, it is gaining momentum in Akwa Ibom State under Governor Udom Emmanuel hence, the decision by the people of Eket and the entire state to endorse the gentleman of honor for a second term from 2019-2023!
