APC Crisis Gets Messier As Udoedehe Seals Off Party Secretariat
The battle for supremacy and leadership crisis rocking the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the All Progressive Congress Party (APC) has reached its crescendo when the factional leader of the party in the state, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, ordered his men to lock up the party secretariat along Atiku Abubakar Way, Uyo.
Storming the state secretariat of the party to protest what they described as unsubstantiated and illegal expulsion of Senator James Akpanudoedehe from the party, faithful of the party loyal to the embattled founding father of the party in the state descended mercilessly on the State Secretary of the APC, threw him out and had the secretariat under lock and key.
Defending their actions, the irritated supporters claimed they would not sit down and watch the party they had all labored for being hijacked by desperate opportunists trying to reap from where they did not sow even as they vowed not to give in to the gimmicks and deadly antics engineered by the Chairman of the party, Mr. Amadu Atai and his paymasters but would fight to ensure that their leader, Senator Udoedehe is given the recognition he deserves in the party.
“We will not leave this party for anyone, they want to come and reap from where they did not sow. It will not happen, not in this State or this party. We refuse to be intimidated because we will not defect to any other party, this is our party”. The angry supporters warned.
It could be recalled that following the recent conflict of interest that ensued between Senator Udoedehe and Obong Umana Okon Umana ahead of the 2019 Governorship ticket which the duo are rumoured to be nursing serious ambitions, there has been series of crossfire between the two men as they have been trading insults and washing their dirty linen in public just to score political points.
While Senator Udoedehe is believed to be operating a one-man squad, Obong Umana on the other hand has allegedly bought the state Chairman, Mr. Amadu Atai and the entire structure of the party to do his bidding as seen in the recent leadership crisis where factional Exco had emerged, with 95% of the new Exco being recruited on the pay-as-you-go arrangement adopted by the party helmsman.
Speaking with this paper, the supporters who alleged that Amadu Attai has killed the party they labored to build for the past years expressed disappointment that all Umana Umana could do was to destroy the APC just as he did to the PDP before he ran away.
“Umana is using Amadu Attai to achieve his evil goals in our party, he has killed the unity we used to have in this party, it is unfortunate that some disgruntled elements in our party have allowed themselves to be used by this selfish politician”. The angry supporters enthused.
Reacting to the alleged expulsion of Senator Udoedehe from the party, the supporters described the act as a political drama orchestrated by Amadu Atai which has proven dead on arrival and explained that the National Working committee of the party had directed that no state should expel or suspend any member of the party, until all lingering crisis have been amicably resolved, saying that the expulsion only existed in Amadu Atai’s imagination and that of his paymasters.
