More Facts Unfold On Nelson Effiong’s Defection
…SAYS HE DEFECTED FOR 2019 GOVERNORSHIP BATTLE
The Senator representing Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District in the red chambers, Nelson Effiong, has again confirmed that his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is borne out of his personal interest in the 2019 governorship election.
Contrary to his earlier submission that he jumped ship because of the leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Effiong said he made the ignoble move to ensure that he rode on the back of his tribe Oro to emerge as the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State in 2019.
Senator Effiong revealed this on Saturday, when he hosted his kinsmen of Eyo-Usatai village in Eyo-Abasi, Oron Local Government Area at his residence in Oron.
He urged the people not to be intimidated by the huge support base of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, but to change and support the All Progressives Congress.
“I want to assure you that where I am leading you is the best for our people. We are going to action because it is our (Oro) turn to produce the next governor of Akwa Ibom State. Let me repeat, it is Oro turn to produce the next governor of Akwa Ibom State, after that one term, the governorship will move to Uyo Senatorial District.
That was the agreement and on that agreement I stand”, the senator stated.
The politician said Oro, having contributed a large part of its resources to the socio-economic development of the State, cannot afford to play a second fiddle.
According to him, his anger with Governor Udom Emmanuel stemmed from the endorsement and massive support he has enjoyed from the three senatorial districts of the state.
He urged the people of Oro nation not to be carried away by the roads and other projects by the governor, and focus on how to help him capture power in the next governorship elections.
“The resources that is used in driving this state, a large part of it comes from Oro. Educationally, Oro has been a citadel of knowledge in that the first missionary that came to this state settled in Oro and schools like Methodist Boys High School and Mary Hanney were founded years years years ago and majority of Akwa Ibom people today got trained in those schools.”
The senator announced that a reception by APC in Oro Nation and that of the senatorial district will soon take place.
