2019: We Are Okay With Gov Emmanuel, Group Warns Nsima Ekere
A Socio-political group in the state, Ata Uyo Initiative, has warned the Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr Nsima Ekere, to bury the very idea of contesting for the 2019 Governorship election against Udom Emmanuel or risk total humiliation.
In a statement sign by the National Coordinator of the group, Obong Cosmos Bassey, the Ata Uyo Initiative stated unequivocally that Mr Nsima Ekere Should concentrate on his duties as the NDDC MD and stop fantasizing with the idea of becoming the Governor of Akwa Ibom State come 2019.
It noted with satisfaction Governor Udom Emmanuel’s giant development strides, especially in the area of industrialization and infrastructural development and called on the entire Akwa Ibom people to continue to rally total support to enable the governor to bring more dividends of democracy to the people.
The Group described Governor Udom Emmanuel as the best thing to happen to Akwa Ibom State at this crucial period of economic recession, stressing that Udom’s five star performance has endeared him to the people hence, a second term for the governor is non negotiable.
It urged the likes of Nsima Ekere to stop wasting their time as Governor Udom Emmanuel will surely sweep the polls come the 2019 Governorship elections.
“We wish to use this medium to tell Mr. Nsima Ekere not to waste his time and resources to come out to contest the 2019 governorship elections against Udom Emmanuel. If he tries it, he will be humiliated at the polls.
“Governor Udom Emmanuel has done so much for Akwa Ibom State and will definitely win with a landslide come 2019. Whoever wants to disgrace himself and see his nakedness and also discover how unpopular he is should come out and contest against Udom Emmanuel,” the group noted.
Throwing more light on why Governor Udom Emmanuel will clear the stakes during the 2019 governorship elections, the group disclosed that presently, Uyo Senatorial District, through several meetings by key stake holders, have unanimously decided to rally their support to ensure that Udom Emmanuel returns to the Hilltop Mansion, come 2019 and complete the eight years for Eket Senatorial District, according to the current zoning arrangement.
It continued that come 2023, power will automatically return to Uyo Senatorial District, hence the issue of Nsima Ekere or any other aspirant trying to be Governor in 2019 does not arise.
“If Nsima Ekere wants to be Governor let him wait until 2039, that is, when Uyo and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Districts may have completed their eight years each. Uyo Senatorial district is in a hurry to get power back, that is why we must support Udom to complete eight years for Eket Senatorial District. If Nsima Ekere becomes the Governor now, won’t he want a second term? What this simply means is that Uyo Senatorial District will have to wait for twelve years to produce another Governor! God forbid”.
It called on all well meaning Akwa Ibom sons and daughters to give Governor Udom Emmanuel the needed support and encouragement and warned those bent on tearing the state apart to desist from making inflammatory statements.
The group particularly took a swipe at Ita Enang, describing his recent comments against the state chief executive as unsavory. It advised Ita Enang to stop attacking the state number one citizen but instead tow the line of Obong Umana Okon Umana, who has demonstrated unparallel patriotism by breaking party barriers to work with the governor.
The group described Ita Enang as an ungrateful opportunist who should be eternally grateful to the Peoples Democratic Party, which plat form it used to shoot himself to political lime light.
