2017: Gov Emmanuel Charges For Love And Unity For Progress
As the people of Akwa Ibom State gathered to re-dedicate the state to God and usher in year 2017, the state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has spoken of the need for the people to cultivate the virtue of love and unity in order to attract divine blessings to the State.
Governor Emmanuel stated this during a Solemn Assembly held at Ibom Hall Grounds, IBB way, Uyo.
He said: “Where love and unity abound, progress is certain to take place. Love and unity should naturally define our heritage notwithstanding our political ideology.”
Mr Emmanuel urged indigenes of the state who are privileged to secure appointment in the corridors of power to use their vantage positions and attract development to the State rather than dissipate energy on unwarranted criticisms to score cheap political points.
Governor Emmanuel who described the theme of the Assembly “I will show mercy” as apt declared year 2017 a glorious year, saying God will manifest himself through miracles and urged the citizens to continually pray for their leaders.
He supported his message of hope with Bible passages in the Books of Zachariah 8:12 and Mathew 7:12, assuring that he would use his position as a spiritual Leader in the state to intercede for the state as was done by Daniel and other great men of God in the days of Old.
The National President, Christian Association Of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Sampson Ayokunle, thanked Governor Emmanuel for his decision to take the state to God at the beginning of the year and used the occasion to condole the state on the December 10th Reigners Bible Church tragedy.
Reverend Ayokunle announced that January 8th 2017 has been set aside as a day of mourning for the victims of Southern Kaduna massacre and prayed God to bless the state in all her undertakings.
Also, the Chairman, State Chapter of Christian Association Of Nigeria, Reverend Ndueso Ekwere, described the Assembly as a convocation to thank God for his mercies having taken the state into year 2017, and expressed hope that God will harken to the prayers of the people.
Reverend Ekwere condemned in strong terms attempt to impose a particular form of Religion on the country, emphasised on unity among the Christian fold and called on churches to raise support and not to relent in prayers for the recovery of victims of Reigners Bible Church collapse.
Earlier in an homily, Reverend Samuel Isaiah of The Apostolic Church, proclaimed that God’s blessings shall flourish in the state in year 2017.
The Cleric took his text from Exodus 33:1-4, expressed appreciation to Governor Emmanuel for dedicating the state to God and assured him that God who stood with Mosses will chart the way forward for the state administration.
The religious gathering which featured praises, dances and exhortation climaxed with prayers by Clergies across the country dedicating the state to God.
