Christmas: Akpabio Fetes A’Ibom Female NYSC Members
It was a rare display of hospitality and warmth as leaders of Akwa Ibom Female Corp Members Initiative, comprising of female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of Akwa Ibom State origin, visited Barr. Prince Ukpong Akpabio, at his Uyo residence to celebrate the 2016 Christmas with him.
Welcoming the Corp members delegation, Barr. Akpabio heralded the pivotal roles of women to the society, nation building and leadership, while thanking them for considering him worthy of such a visit in the yuletide, noting the visit has afforded him a moment to reflect on the essence of the season.
He advised them to good use of their service year, live peaceably with their host communities at their places of primary assignment, keep the laws of the land and do their best for the nation, reminding them that the scheme which is aimed at pulling down the walls of disunity in Nigeria, was apt and needful, to forestall further polarization of the nation, and bring people across the country to bridge ethnic and religious gaps.
The Essien Udim born legal practitioner commiserated with the corp members and the entire management of NYSC over the loss of some corp members at the recently concluded orientation course in different parts of the Country and charged the authorities to do more in ensuring the content of the programme is improved to support the nation’s crave for a sustained economy.
Akpabio tasked members of the group to endeavour to acquire skills that will sustain their independence to make them economically viable, rather than wait for government employments and promised his continuous support to the forum, to achieve its vision of giving women a voice in the scheme of things.
The leader of the female corp members delegation, Miss. Emem Nnah, who is currently serving in Delta state, thanked Barr. Akpabio for the warm reception accorded them, and congratulated their host who recently turned 40, as well as prayed him long life in good health.
She commended Akpabio’s humane disposition as evidenced in the postponement of programmes lined up to celebrate his anniversary of birth and special thanksgiving, to show solidarity with family of victims of the collapsed Reigners Church building and prayed eternal repose to those who lost their lives to the tragedy.
They promised to ensure they make the state proud by displaying a good sense of patriotism as they serve their fatherland.
