Gov Emmanuel Cheats Death As Reigners Church Building Collapses
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has escaped death by the whisker as the building belonging to Reigners Bible Church International, has collapsed.
The tragic incident occurred during the church’s 2016 International Convention and consecration of the pastor, Akan Weeks, at the Uyo Village Road, on Saturday, where the Governor was in attendance.
Scores of people have been reportedly killed while others sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to hospitals.
The Secretary to the State Government, Sir Etekamba Umoren; Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Ekerette Udoh; the newly appointed Commissioner for Information at the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr Charles Udoh; and some members of the Government House Press Corps were badly injured and are currently receiving treatment.
The State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has taken time to go round the various hospitals and clinics where the victims were admitted.
The church was filled to its capacity as the Pastor, Akan Week, was being consecrated as a bishop when the incident happened.
The cause of the building collapse could not be ascertained, however, it was attributed to poor construction work by the contractor who was said to have erected such an auditorium without a central pillar.
As at the time of filing this report, security agents and emergency teams were at the scene trying to rescue the victims and evaluate the lifeless bodies.
