Akwa Ibom Agog For 29th State's Creation

Jubilation, ecstasy, excitement, happiness and loud cheers on Friday, 23 September, greeted the entrance of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, into the Uyo Township Stadium, venue of the state’s 29 years of existence.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr) Onofiok Luke, while leading members of the House in a goodwill message, noted that it takes someone like Governor Udom Emmanuel to pilot the affairs of the state even during a dwindling economy.
He advised Akwa Ibom people to ignore those who would show up during campaign and abandon them during recession period, saying: “A friend in need is a friend indeed.”
The state Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, who was visibly elated, thanked the Akwa Ibomites for the supports given him, and reiterated his commitment for selfless service to them.
Also in his goodwill message, former military Governor of the State, Chief Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, said that Akwa Ibom State has come of age. He thanked Governor Emmanuel for leading people of the state and giving them reasons to celebrate the state creation despite the economic woes of the country.
Highpoints of the event included Book Review and presentation; the Dakkada Creed recitation, and match-pass by various groups and organisations in the state such as the State Executive Council; Collage of Governor’s Aides; Mandate Preservation Group (MPG); Dakkada Ambassadors, and National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Uyo branch.
Others are skill acquisition group; physically challenged; Akwa Ibom Tricycle Union (AKSU); students associations; market women association, and others too many to mention.
The state, which in the past few days, had experienced rainstorm, enjoyed fair weather as there was neither rain nor sun throughout the event.
The occasion was immensely attended by all government functionaries in the state, and dignitaries from other states.
