Gov Emmanuel Orders For Immediate Renovation Of Ikot Okoro General Hospital
Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, Wednesday, 24th August, 2016, visited the dilapidated Ikot Okoro General Hospital in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of the State, where he expressed shock at the state of decay in the hospital and ordered for immediate renovation.
He acknowledged that the health facility which was established in 1954 has suffered neglect and ordered for a mass burial of twenty corpses which have been abandoned in the hospital.
Governor Emmanuel, accompanied by Development expert, Dr Patrick Adiel, was shown round the health facility by Commissioner for Health, Dr Dominic Ukpong and the medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Uwak Ekarika who also briefed the Governor on challenges facing the hospital.
The governor was accompanied by distinguished sons and daughters of the State, including the leader of the State House of Assembly and member representing Oruk Anam State Constituency, Rt Hon Udo Kierian Akpan, some Commissioners in the State, amongst them; the Commissioner for Works, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang.
On the imperative of the visit, dignitaries who exchanged views with the reporter, including the State Commissioner for Works, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang, was of the opinion that good healthcare delivery is one of the top priorities of the Udom Emmanuel led administration.
