I’m Ready To Sacrifice For Akwa Ibom –Gov. Emmanuel
By Umoh-Obong Kingsley
The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, has declared that he is ready to do anything possible to lead the State to the expected destination.
He made the declaration at the 2016 Democracy Day Celebration and One Year in Office with Special Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service held at The Apostolic Church, Obio Imo, on Sunday, 29 May, 2016, with the theme: “Pour Your Spirit From On High, Oh Lord (Isa. 32:15)”, to appreciate God for the impactful one year in office of the Divine Mandate.
The State Executive Governor, while delivering his speech, said that he is ready to make sacrifices to lead the state, saying: “I, as the leader and the captain, am ready to make sacrifices. I’m ready to lead. I have the capacity and the vision. I have the calling, the blessing, the spirit, the mind and the passion that by the special grace of God, we will reach the destination.
“We are calling on our people to leave ethnicity, things that can divide us, things that can make us be so conscious of who we are or where we come from, then look into the Akwa Ibom project.
“The Akwa Ibom of tomorrow is the Akwa Ibom that we must come to realise that if I speak one language here, anybody really from Akwa Ibom will understand. Let’s look at the fact that we have to move beyond those biases. We must rise to greatness in this state. We must take the faith in our hands. We must believe and have the right passion and faith to move on.”
Governor Emmanuel expressed appreciation to God for the success recorded in the past one year of his administration. He said it is a time to allow the Spirit of God to move, and every other thing would be settled.
“I took over the mantle of leadership of this State a year ago at the stadium, where we said ‘Father, no man can do this. Take over this state and govern’. To our surprise, God has done much more than we expected. We are here today to return all glory to God.”
He noted that there is no government without God, adding that even when Jesus Christ was born, to show a sign of authority, Isaiah had to prophesy: ‘…and the government shall be upon His shoulder’.
Giving reason for the choice of the church for the programme, Governor Emmanuel held that the anointing in the alter of the church cannot be found in any social gathering. “I told my people during the Government House Prayer Meeting that the Spirit has not led me to go to anywhere, but we must go to a dedicated alter. The anointing that is speaking from the alter of The Apostolic Church is different from that of the Stadium and Ibom Hall. That is why we had to be here today.”
The visibly elated Governor emphatically stated that God is about to start the real work in Akwa Ibom, that what He has done in the past one year was just appetizer. The real work is about to commence. That is why God gave the theme of the programme, and that it is only when the Spirit of the Lord comes down that miracles happen.
He also used the service as a point of contact to pray that the Lord sends His Spirit upon this country Nigeria.
It is worth mentioning here that in the past one year, the Governor Udom Emmanuel-led administration has been able to commission roads and several life-touching projects like Medical Emergency Operation Centre, Ikot Ekpene; Akwa Prime Hatchery; State Secretariat Annex; the Sport Centre and Remodelling of West Itam Secondary School.
Projects such as Second Runway at Ibom International Airport; 6km road network, Atan Offot; Erosion intervention site, Calabar Itu highway; 1.2km underground drainage work, Nsikak Eduok were inspected, while Coconut Plantation and Refinery; International Oil Depot, Ibeno and Uyo Ultramodern Regional Market, Mbiabong Etoi were flagged off.
