Gov Emmanuel To Prosecute Teachers Violating School Children
The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has said that he would stop at nothing in prosecuting teachers caught violating students particularly the female children in both the private and public Schools.
Governor Emmanuel stated this at the grand finale of activities marking the 2016 National Children’s Day Celebration held in Uyo Township Stadium.
The Governor who announced re-introduction of Chaplaincy in boarding schools explained that it would sharpen the students moral values and advised parents to desist from exposing their children to emotional and physical torture by sending them out in the street to hawk or stigmatise them as watches stressing that his administration is committed to the implementation of the Child Rights Law.
While calling on the children to be focused in their studies and not allow themselves to be distracted by transient pleasures, Mr Emmanuel assured that schools in the state will be upgraded and equipped to standard while the Sports Academy established in the ten Federal Constituencies is to help explore the inert talents of the children in the field of sports to represent the state at international competitions.
The State Chief Executive described the theme of this years celebration “Protecting the right of the Child in the face of violence and Insecurity : End Child Marriage, as very apt given the challenges posed by the breakdown of societal values and the unrestricted social media vices and urged stakeholders in the educational sector to help create awareness for parents, family and Communities on the critical role of protecting the child against all forms of abuse.
Earlier the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Glory Edet said that the Children’s Day celebration is a clarion call on government at all levels and individuals to initiate policies about the welfare and protection of children.
She spoke against child marriage, lauding the state government for initiating child friendly policies and advised the children to be obedient to parents, law abiding and remain focus in their educational pursuit.
At the event School Children recited the Dakkada Creed as Zenith Bank PLC and Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company splashed gift items on the students.
