Celine Dion’s Hubby Dies At 73
The husband and manager of Canadian singer, songwriter and businesswoman, Celine Dion, Rene Angelil, is dead.
He died at his suburban Las Vegas home after being battling throat cancer, authorities said Thursday. He was 73.
Angelil died in Henderson under the care of a doctor, Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg said.
“He died of natural causes, and no further investigation is expected,” he said. Fudenberg’s office was notified of the death Thursday.
A post on Dion’s official Facebook page also confirmed the death: “It is with deep sadness that we announce that Ren Anglil, aged 73, died this morning at her residence in Las Vegas after a long and courageous fight against cancer. The family wishes to live the mourning in privacy.”
Angélil had earlier suffered a heart attack in 1992 at age 51. He was also diagnosed with throat cancer in 1998 and subsequently made a full recovery.
He appeared in the video for Simple Plan’s song Save You as a survivor of cancer.
In 2009, Angélil reportedly underwent a heart-related medical procedure to deal with “arterial blockage”. The procedure had been “planned for months” and was “not heart surgery”.
