A Mega Reception For A Mega Governor
By Pat Reuben
Democracy the world over is widely acclaimed as the best system of government as it affords the people the opportunity to participate on who governs them; and how they are governed. The joy of the people on any democratic setting becomes more pronounced when leaders and their actions are reflective of the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
Till date many are of the belief that providence has a hand in throwing up Gov. Udom Emmanuel; not just because of his towering profile in corporate governance and his exceptional performance in his brief but impactful stint in the state public sector, but because the existing political rotation arrangements in the state favoured Akwa Ibom south (Eket) Senatorial district, where he hails from.
Before the elections Gov. Udom Emmanuel, took his message to the elders and traditional rulers; he addressed rallies and campaigns in the 31 local government councils. Indeed that he is the Governor today attests to the fact that his message resonated with the people.
He told Akwa Ibom people at different fora that since it was obvious that people desired more industries with him in the saddle they could as well go to bed as he had previously supervised and facilitated the establishment of such ventures all over the world. Everywhere he went Udom assured the people that health care; free and qualitative education; job creation and wealth generation were just fragments of some of the programmes so dear to his heart for the people.
Governor Udom Emmanuel had assured that within his first two years in the saddle, his revolution will lead to a slash in food prices in Akwaibom by over 60 per cent and also committed himself to establishing skills acquisition centers for the purpose of manpower development. He argued that PDP represents the best choice the people can make to ensure that sustainable development is maintained in the state and wooed the people to remain focused.
Today Akwa Ibom people and indeed the good people of Eket Senatorial District where the Governor is from have proven beyond reasonable doubt that their son is sure consolidating on superior performance. On Saturday 9th January; 2016; all routes led to Eket where the youths of the area put up a grand reception and annual rally in solidarity with Gov. Udom Emmanuel. The significant message sent out here is that of total support for him against all odds and in furtherance attest to the fact that they will stand by their mandate which was divinely arranged with the massive votes amassed by the Governor on April 11, 2015. It was a gathering of creme de’creme who came out enmasse to rally support for his Excellency who within seven months has proven to even the doubting Thomases that he is firmly in charge of the affairs of the state. From the various speakers who took time out to pour lofty encomiums on him cutting across the youth; elders; women, royal fathers and political heavyweights; it was absolutely glaring that Udom Emmanuel got the signature support; heart and minds of not only Eket Senatorial District people but the entire Akwa Ibom people as they all spoke in unison towards the sustenance of a reliable brand.
Setting the tone, the Chairman on the occasion and leader of Eket Senatorial District, Chief Nduese Essien said the people were proud of the achievements and excellent manner their son was piloting the affairs of the state, despite the economic realities. The former lawmaker thanked the entire state for their support, and maintained that no matter the discordant tunes from few self-seeking politicians, no one can stop Akwa Ibom people from queuing behind their governor.
On his part, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga frowned at the Appeal Court judgement which was at variance with the will of the people of the State. He said that after the political judgement comes Divine judgement, and that the Divine judgement will only favour the Governor Emmanuel because he has the Divine Mandate in line with justice and equity.
The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Barr Onofiok Luke dismissed any threat to the governorship seat being occupied by Gov Emmanuel, and said that Uyo and Ikot Ekpene will support the Governor to complete his tenure of eight years. The speaker maintained that justice cannot be overlooked for a zone that has never occupied the office of chief executive of the state previously, especially when that zone produces the bulk of resources used in developing the country and the state.
Words of commendations; goodwill messages; endorsement and ovasive cheers rented the air in solidarity with the governor. Lady Valerie Ebe, Senator Anietie Okon, Engr. Sam Inyang, Mrs Owoidighe Ekpoattai, Mrs Akon Eyakenyie and Dr. Esiokwong Udoh among others pledged the support of their people to the Governor under whatever circumstance.
Mr Ephraim Inyang who was the chairman of the organizing committee of the ceremony was full of appreciation large turnout, insisting that it was a tradition for outstanding sons to be received and honoured for making the district proud.
Indeed the Governor from all indications knew he was really at home with his people and blessed hath thou amongst them. He commended the people of the State for their support and solidarity to his leadership and promised to continue providing empowerment opportunities for the people.
While thanking the Eket Senatorial District for the reception in his honour, the Governor warned that the peaceful disposition of the Akwa Ibom people should not be misinterpreted by other Nigerians who are meddling into the affairs for selfish gains.
Memories and living bliss of the Eket mega rally will remain evergreen among numerous persons especially in a season when all hands must be on deck to keep the divine mandate flag flying.
THE SUBMISSION THEN:The good people of Akwa Ibom State have continued to pour encomiums on the Governor; and it is not out of place to conclude that the continuous large celebrations that have trailed Udom Emmanuel’s success at the polls is based on the people’s confidence that the victory translates to sustainable development in the form of job and wealth creation; human empowerment; industrialization and a secured future for the state. And this every Akwa Ibom person must be aware cannot come from any other person, especially those who have not experienced life outside the corridors of power. To the people of Eket Senatorial District you have set the tone and all must endeavour to blaze the trail… we must uphold this feat!
