Nigerian Students Are Gifted
Nigerian students are smart and intelligent, if trained in a conducive learning environment, they will excel as lawyers, doctors, accountants, architects, or in any of their chosen professions and contribute meaningfully to the development of the country, said the students of Good Shepherd School, Alagbado, Ogun State .
The students who took turns to express their views during the school’s weekly radio programme recently reiterated that every Nigerian student deserved a bright future which is now threatened because of poor standard of education, lack of social amenities, insecurity, religious and social unrest and economic meltdown in the country.
They, therefore, called on government, school owners, parents and other stakeholders in the education sector to provide quality education and basic amenities for young Nigerians in order to become responsible future leaders.
The students said that young Nigerians can only hope for the best if the government at all levels implement sound educational policies, provide scholarship and career opportunities for students as well as build social infrastructures
However, the students did not underestimate the roles of parents in their lives.
One of the students said that parents have a lot to do to ensure that their children turn out well in life, The student said parents have no excuse not to perform their roles. If a parent lost his job or means of livelihood, he can engage in meaningful business activity that does not require big capital to support his family, especially the feeding and education of his children. The students advised that parents should also be good role models to their children, which can only be achieved if they are disciplined.
According to the students, all members of the society also have a role to play in grooming future leaders. They must be ready to give their financial and moral support .
The students e urged both public and private organisations to be involved in community projects for the betterment of the country.
